I guess money will make you forget you were once bitter rivals…
Marc Stein is reporting that the Lakers will acquire Steve Nash from the Suns in a sign & trade for future draft picks.
The Lakers have an $8.9 million trade exception that makes this deal possible.
Brace yourselves people. I’m about to rant.
Let me preface this by saying that I am a Steve Nash fan. I will never forget what he did for the Suns in his prime, and for me, he goes down in the books with Barkley and the rest of them.
In his day, Nash was a superstar and I loved it.
That day has long since passed.
Sure, on paper, he’s leading the league in assists. But as a fan who watches the games, it is clear to me that his best days are behind him. He can’t be relied on to hit game winning shots, or even to consistently make plays that advance the team. I’m not saying that the Suns’ struggles fall exclusively to him, but he is certainly a contributing factor.
And with this article (and other things I have heard recently) it is becoming clear to me that Nash is playing the victim. The fans treat him like a victim, always whining about how he deserves to be on a better team, yada yada yada.
Maybe so. But a true superstar wouldn’t be content to sit on their laurels as their team takes loss after loss. If Nash was out there killing himself on the court, then I would feel more sympathetic. But he’s not. He’s putting in half-assed effort after half-assed effort with occasional glimpses of his former self.
So I say if Steve Nash wants to go, let him. Better yet, trade him and let’s see if the Suns can get someone for him.
It’s time to put the past behind us and build a franchise around new, young talent.
I hope Steve Nash would be willing to mentor this perspective talent, but if not, I wish him the best. But his present attitude isn’t helping his team and comes off as selfish and whiny to me.
It may sound harsh, but business is business. Nash seems to understand that.
It’s time the Suns organization and their fans did too.
Nash killed me in that fourth quarter. People still insist that he is our super star but turnovers and missed shots do not win games. His best basketball days are behind him. He knows it and it’s time the fans accepted it too.
Losing to the Spurs hurts worse than losing to any other team in the league.
The Phoenix Suns take on the Spurs tonight.
I always feel like we have to pay this team back for robbing us years back.
Forget the Lakers. This is the REAL rivalry.
Let’s go boys!
You are really embarrassing the fans that have hung in there with you. It’s like you don’t even care to win.
For the love of God, fire someone. Trade Nash while we can still get something for him, get a new coach or a new GM or a new team. I don’t care what it takes; DO IT.
Otherwise we’re all going to show up to your games with paper bags on our heads.
